Mesquite ISD outlines assessment audit findings and plans to sharpen tests and teacher supports

Mesquite ISD's accountability, research and evaluation director reported results of an external assessment audit and described changes to how the district will manage assessments. The audit by an outside agency (Gibson) examined overlap, instructional time costs, and financial costs of district assessments and recommended procedural controls and a single district assessment lead to reduce redundancy.
The director said the district will convene an assessment committee, align the purpose of benchmarks across campuses, emphasize common formative assessments (CFAs), expand training for the recently adopted I‑Ready platform, discontinue some district checkpoint assessments (DCPs) where they duplicate I‑Ready, and target professional learning and supports for campuses identified for improvement.
