External auditors presented the fiscal year 2025 independent audit to the Mesquite ISD Board and reported an unmodified opinion with no internal control findings related to financial reporting or compliance.
The audit presentation included a high-level financial summary: total revenues of $434,000,000, expenditures of $449,000,000, another financing source of $2,000,000 and an overall decrease in fund balance of $13,000,000, leaving an ending fund balance of $122,000,000. The auditors also highlighted the district's government-wide net position (noted at approximately $1.5 billion in assets and a net position figure presented in the report) and large liabilities including bonds and proportionate pension/OPEB shares.
"We are issuing an unmodified opinion with no internal control findings related to financial reporting or findings related to compliance," the audit presenter told trustees. The presenters explained substantive testing approaches, federal program testing requirements and the Office of Management and Budget compliance supplement timing, and they fielded trustees' questions about revenue composition and the effect of tax compression on state aid.
Board members thanked auditors for detailed materials and noted management's role in resolving prior recommendations. The board later approved the audit as an action item on the agenda.
