Mesquite ISD honors Apple Corps teachers for classroom leadership

The Mesquite Independent School District Board of Trustees recognized two teachers at its November meeting for the district's Apple Corps award program, honoring classroom leadership, innovation and years of service.
The board read proclamations welcoming Shondra Holland of Mesquite Academy and Wendy Swanner of Motley Elementary into the Apple Corps. The proclamation noted that honorees are nominated by peers and represent the district's highest classroom recognition. "Whereas the Mesquite Independent School District Board of Trustees seeks to honor outstanding classroom teachers who demonstrate leadership, innovation, and dedication to the students of Mesquite ISD," a board representative read during the meeting.
Shondra Holland said she was grateful for the recognition and for colleagues who supported her: "I'm so honored to be chosen as an Apple Corps teacher; this recognition means a lot to me and it reflects something bigger." Wendy Swanner, who has 25 years of experience in special education, heard her proclamation read and received congratulations from trustees and colleagues.
The recognitions included brief remarks about each teacher's instructional approach and school-based impact. Trustees and administrators praised the honorees for building students' academic and social-emotional foundations and for sustained service to Mesquite ISD.
