A motion to "affirm Wise County’s commitment to fund school resource officers in our schools if grant funding is not awarded" — described by the Interim County Administrator as a request that would cost "approximately $500,000" — was introduced but a substitute motion by Chairman J. H. Rivers to adopt the budget as advertised passed. Supervisor Fred Luntsford asked that the Board address the SRO funding question after the budget is approved; Rivers accepted that request. The substitute motion carried and the budget was approved as presented.
The Interim County Administrator noted the $500,000 figure as an approximate cost and said consideration of the funding could be addressed in a future budget amendment if funds become available.
