Brecksville-Broadview Heights board approves immediate hire of elementary intervention specialist

The Brecksville-Broadview Heights Board of Education approved a personnel recommendation at a July 9 special meeting to hire an intervention specialist for the district elementary school. Board President Mark Dosen, Board Member Brad Chase and Board Member Eva O'Mara voted in favor; two members were absent.
Superintendent Jeff Harrison told the board the hire was urgent because of a looming July 10 deadline affecting certified staff contracts. According to the superintendent, "if a certified employee breaks a contract after July 10th, their previous district could withhold their license," and completing the hiring process before that date would avoid that risk. Harrison said the specialist would be placed at the elementary building to provide a least-restrictive environment for several special-education students.
The motion to "RESOLVE to approve certified personnel recommendations as attached" was moved by Board Member Eva O'Mara and seconded by Board Member Brad Chase; the motion carried by roll call vote 3–0 (Yea: Chase, O'Mara, Dosen; Nay: 0; Absent: Galek, Kwiatkowski). The board noted that public participation was not scheduled for this special meeting and that the meeting was being livestreamed.
The board scheduled its next regular meeting for Tuesday, July 14, 2026.
