The Mesquite ISD Board of Trustees voted to approve a one-time $250 incentive for employees who give early notice of retirement effective at the end of the 2025-26 school year. The board's president, Carbo, called the motion after an administrator presented eligibility rules and the payment timeline.
An administrator described the program as a way "to support earlier staffing decisions for the 20 six-twenty 7 school year," and said, "The incentive amount that we're requesting is $250 a 1 time payment, and it would be paid on the employee's final June 2026 paycheck." Eligibility was limited to employees on a probationary term or continuing contract with valid certification or credentials, employees who already plan to retire at the end of the 2025-26 school year, and employees who previously submitted retirement notice after July 1 of the current school year.
Board members asked one clarifying question about the scope of the incentive, and were told it applies only to retirements. The board approved the motion to adopt the incentive (motion by Ms. Hornby, second by Mr. Rose) by voice vote; the president announced, "Ayes have it, motion carries." The deadline for submitting resignation via the district's Frontline system and required signed documentation was stated as 4:00 p.m. on Jan. 23, 2026.
The action is a personnel decision and will be implemented through routine payroll processes; staff said verification would occur before payment in June 2026.
