Board approves three CMAR packages for campus renovations and replacement school

The Mesquite ISD Board approved the recommended construction method — Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR) — for three grouped project packages covering renovations and a replacement campus. District staff presented the proposal and trustees approved the three items in a single motion.
Mr. Russell explained the packages and the rationale for grouping smaller projects to capture cost savings and construction synergies. "Package 1 will be for Beasley Elementary, Moss Elementary, and Gray Elementary renovations," he said, and described work including kitchen equipment replacement, MEP (mechanical, plumbing and electrical) upgrades, RTU and chiller replacements, and life-safety improvements such as fire alarm and sprinkler upgrades. Other packages include renovations and additions to high-school facilities and a replacement Lawrence-Motley school (planned at roughly 8,600 square feet to serve about 600 students) with site changes tied to the city park plan.
The board moved to approve all three CMAR items together; President Carbo called for the voice vote and the motions carried with "ayes." Trustees indicated further design presentations will be brought back in future meetings.
