Mesquite ISD names Jose Peterson Torres principal at Lawrence Elementary

The Mesquite Independent School District Board of Trustees approved the appointment of Jose Peterson Torres as principal of Lawrence Elementary during its recent meeting. Board members moved, seconded and approved the personnel action in a voice vote.
An administrator introduced Torres to the board, citing his background as a U.S. Army veteran and more than a decade of service in Mesquite ISD, including recent roles as assistant principal at Wooley Middle School and Berry Middle School and teaching at Berry and McWhorter Elementary. The presenter said Torres holds a master’s degree in educational leadership and policy studies from the University of Texas at Arlington and a bachelor’s degree from Inter American University of Puerto Rico.
Torres addressed the board and public after his introduction, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to lead Lawrence Elementary. "I stand before you today with immense gratitude for the opportunity to lead Joe Lawrence Elementary School as your principal," he said, and described Mesquite as his family’s first home after moving from Puerto Rico. He told trustees he aims to "ensure that every student at Lawrence has that same opportunity to succeed and flourish through determination and collaboration."
