Principals report UIL success, academic programs and planned Health Sciences expansion

Abernathy ISD principals reported on academic and extracurricular progress at the Jan. 16 board meeting. High School Principal Tate Albright said academic UIL competitors performed well at Texas Tech University, varsity cheer is advancing to the UIL State Cheer Competition in Fort Worth, and seniors are working with counselors on scholarship applications; the administration is preparing to expand the Health Sciences program and add additional certification programs.
Middle School Principal Ollie Hart reported completion of formal teacher observations and scheduling of mid-year conferences, with TMSCA practice beginning; Elementary Principal Joanna Fullingim noted mid-year teacher conferences and the Jump Rope for Heart fundraiser, and said staff are ready for the first day of Optional Learning. Ritchie Thornton noted the district received the final TAPR report and will present it at the February board meeting. ESC 17 is scheduled to observe math teachers next week.
