District will require doctor's note for prescription and over-the-counter medications at school

Bastrop ISD trustees approved revisions to Policy FFAC to require a doctor's note for nurses to administer prescription and OTC medications to students beginning August 2024.
Trustees voted Aug. 20 to amend Policy FFAC (LOCAL)-X to require a physician's note for both prescription and over-the-counter medications before the licensed school nurse may administer them at school. Dr. Janel Morris, Director of Student Services, said the change aligns nurse practice with the parameters of their medical license and that families have been notified of the new requirement.
The Board approved the revision on a motion by Billy Moore, seconded by Matthew Mix. The requirement takes effect in August 2024 and campus nurses will require documentation from a licensed provider to administer medications during school hours.
