The Board approved a staff development minutes waiver Aug. 20 under House Bill 2442 that lets Bastrop ISD include up to 2,100 staff development minutes as part of the required 75,600 operational minutes for the school year. Kendra Monk, Director of Leadership Development & School Improvement, said the waiver allows the district to schedule teacher professional-development days without extending the school year or instructional day for students.
Trustee Ashley Mutschink moved to approve the waiver and Trustee Matthew Mix seconded; the motion carried unanimously. The change affects calendar planning and gives administrators flexibility to provide targeted professional learning earlier in the year.
