Board approves switching CMAR for Elementary #10 to American Constructors; president abstains

The Board approved the superintendent's recommendation Aug. 20 to rescind the Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR) award to Drymala and reassign the Elementary #10 CMAR to American Constructors. Director of Construction and Planning Lee Raspberry told trustees the district could achieve cost and scheduling efficiencies by using the same CMAR that is already building Elementary #9, and that no contract had been signed for Elementary #10, allowing the district to change the award without rebidding.
Trustee Chris M. Dillon moved to approve the recommendation and Trustee Matthew Mix seconded. President Ashley Mutschink abstained from the vote; the motion carried 6–0–1. Trustees cited American Constructors’ experience with the same design and its record of completing a project on time and under budget as reasons for the change.
Next steps: administration will finalize contract documents with American Constructors and proceed with project planning for Elementary #10 under the 2023 bond program.
