CDD files Lee County NPDES annual report to FDEP ahead of Nov. 1 deadline

The CDD's Johnson Engineering representative reported the Lee County NPDES Cycle 4 Year 7 report has been reviewed by Lee County and will be submitted to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection before the Nov. 1, 2024 deadline; staff flagged that sampling requirements may change under the next permit.
Mark Zordan presented the Lee County NPDES Permit FLS000035-004 Cycle 4 Year 7 Annual Report and said Lee County reviewed and approved the report "and it will be submitted to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) in advance of the November 1, 2024 deadline." He noted a new permit is anticipated but timing is unknown, so staff will continue into Year 8 under existing requirements and Johnson Engineering will attend bi-monthly Lee County NPDES meetings and forward minutes to the District Manager.
Board members discussed potential future changes to water-sampling requirements and were reminded that stormwater ponds are expected to catch and retain runoff and are not held to the same standard as natural lakes. The Board did not take further action at the meeting beyond acknowledging the report and next-steps for submission and monitoring.
