Arlington ISD honors student artists, athletes and performing groups

The Arlington ISD Board highlighted multiple student achievements at its May 20 meeting, including musical, artistic and athletic honors.
The Blanton Eagles Elementary Choir, under the direction of Carlee Monthie, performed three selections including "Count on Me" and "Stand by Me." The Board also recognized Visual Arts All-Stater winners across district campuses; three Arlington entries received VASE Gold Seal distinction. Specific named students include Britney Alvarado, Leanne Blair, Sebastian Gallegos and others from Arlington, Bowie, Lamar, Martin, Dr. Marcelo Center for Visual and Performing Arts, and Sam Houston High School.
In athletics, the Board noted Lamar High School student Delia Bass placed 5th in the 100M wheelchair race in 23.94 seconds and 5th in the 400M in 1 minute, 41 seconds. Martin High School reported first- and third-place finishes in long jump for Caitlyn Cavitt and Kevin Grant respectively, and Seguin High School’s relay team placed 4th in the 4x100 with a time of 41.07 seconds. The Martin competitive archery team, coached by Alex Villanueva, was honored for winning its third consecutive National Archery in the Schools Program Western National Championship.
