The Arlington Independent School District Board of Trustees unanimously approved administrative appointments and elected board officers at its May 20 regular meeting.
Superintendent Smith recommended the hires that had been discussed in closed session; a motion "to approve the administrative appointments as recommended in closed session" was made by Trustee Melody Fowler and seconded by Trustee David Wilbanks and passed 7–0. Dr. Smith then introduced the appointed principals: Andrea Trowbridge will serve as principal of Farrell Elementary (previously assistant principal at Sherrod Elementary), Carin Tufts will lead Bailey Jr. High (previously principal at Burgin Elementary), and Lee Jones will be principal of Sam Houston High School (previously principal at Bowie High School).
Earlier in the meeting Trustee Justin Chapa moved "to elect Sarah McMurrough as President, Leanne Haynes as Vice-President and Brooklyn Richardson as Secretary," a motion seconded by Trustee Melody Fowler that passed unanimously, 7–0. The Board had called a brief recess to convene into closed session at 5:16 p.m.; the public portion of the meeting resumed at 7:11 p.m. with all seven trustees present.
The motions and unanimous votes were recorded in the meeting minutes; no additional amendments or conditions to the appointments were listed. The newly elected board officers’ terms take effect per Board custom at the conclusion of the meeting.
