Council backs placing $85 rental-registration fee on next agenda

Councilwoman Susan Kern (Inspections, Housing/Zoning) told the Council that the city's rental-registration and inspection fees have not risen since 2006 or 2009 and recommended raising both to $85 to help offset the cost of a digital permitting rollout planned for 2027.
Kern said the fee increase "would not affect those already registered for this year" and that all members present gave a straw poll in favor of placing the proposal on the next formal agenda. She told the Council the increase would be added to next year’s budget. Council President Bucci directed staff to prepare the item for the regular agenda.
