At its May 19 meeting, the City of Northfield council agreed to advance preliminary FEMA grant applications after a presentation from OEM Coordinator Tim Joo.
Tim Joo said he had submitted three preliminary projects to FEMA and been approved to move forward with applying for two. He said there is a 25% match from the city; “the first project was roughly $2.7 million dollars, about $700,000.00 match from the City,” according to the meeting minutes. Engineer Nassar added that a pump-station scope tied to the projects could cost about $600,000 and indicated some work could avoid restoration of existing mains.
Solicitor Facenda told council a resolution authorizing application and coordination with the engineer would be required and that the new CFO must certify availability of funds; a June 9 resolution was proposed unless the CFO requests a special meeting. Deputy Municipal Clerk Shannon Campbell offered to forward details to CFO Bauer. All members present voted in favor of submitting the preliminary applications to FEMA.
Next steps: council will seek certification of funds from the CFO and return at a future meeting with a resolution to authorize formal application and any required local-match commitment.
