Turner Benton appeared online during the work session to introduce himself as a candidate for the Housing Authority of Salt Lake City. Benton said he recently completed a six-year term as chair of the Glendale Neighborhood Council and that he was honored to be considered for the housing authority role. "I think 1 of the cruelest things about our society at times is that folks can spend their entire lives working and contributing to our community and then when they get to older age... be priced out or left out of our city," he said, describing public housing authorities as frontline organizations in keeping a city inclusive.
Council members thanked Benton for his neighborhood leadership and said he would be placed on the consent agenda for the 7PM formal meeting. The administration will follow up with next steps after the formal meeting.
