Mayor Sokolich outlines infrastructure, senior housing and events in 2026 State of the Borough

Mayor Mark Sokolich delivered the Borough’s State of the Borough on Jan. 6, opening with, “Welcome and Happy New Year to everyone. 2025 was another great year for Fort Lee.” He credited municipal employees and volunteers for daily operations and highlighted several projects planned for 2026, including construction of a new National Little League Field, improvements to the Center Avenue Bridge and work to address flooding on the borough’s south end.
Sokolich said the borough is finalizing plans to construct “upwards of 100 Senior Units” and a new Senior Citizen Center, and previewed a July 1, 2026 fireworks show tied to the USA 250th birthday. He also cited the Barrymore Film Center’s growing schedule and said the borough will pursue expanded library facilities. On finances he emphasized continued “fiscal scrutiny,” identified aggressive annual bond debt repayment of approximately $7 million to $8 million, and said the borough’s surplus was $13.5 million with an expectation the completed 2025 financial statement will push available surplus “upwards of $20M.”
