Educators warn sale could undermine BISD CTE programs; cite $26M annual CTE revenue and recent district investments

She also told the Board that roughly $18–$20 million was invested in Cummings between about 2017 and 2019 for remodeling to house the CTE programs. Several public speakers asked whether sale proceeds would be reinvested into a new CTE facility to avoid disrupting students or diminishing program quality.
Board members responding during and after public comment repeatedly stressed a stated goal of delivering a new, dedicated CTE facility rather than relying solely on renovation. Trustee Carlos Elizondo said he supported negotiation efforts but emphasized "fiscal responsibility and transparency" and insisted any deal should prioritize students. Community commenters and staff asked the Board to ensure BISD obtains its own appraisal and public notice of offers in accordance with statutory requirements before final action.
