Board selects insurance carriers and greenlights multi-year contracts and renewals

Chief Financial Officer Norma Friddle led several insurance and procurement items during the June 15 meeting, and the board approved the recommended carriers and renewals.
For property, general liability and automobile insurance the board approved Texas Political Subdivisions as the carrier following Friddle's recommendation; Trustee Ruthie Waller moved the motion and it passed 5-0 with two trustees absent. The board also approved Midwest Employers Casualty as the excess workers' compensation carrier (motion by Trustee David Stasny) and AIG as the school leaders liability carrier (motion by Trustee Ruthie Waller).
On procurement, Deputy Superintendent Dr. Brian Merrell and Transportation Director Bryant Washington described a planned purchase of GPS-enabled tablets for district buses to support routing navigation and student attendance tracking. The board approved the purchase in the amount of $261,221, to be funded using surplus funds from the 2020 bond as included in the 2025 bond plan. "I move approval of the purchase of GPS-enabled tablets for district buses in the amount of $261,221 to support routing navigation and student attendance tracking," Trustee David Stennis moved; the motion passed 5-0.
The board also approved the renewal of OperationsHero for July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2027 in the amount of $55,789.98 (motion by Trustee Julie Harlin). Each insurance and renewal motion passed unanimously among trustees present.
