Consultant: Open bids late Sept. for Fort Branch water project, SRF closing expected in November

HWC Engineering said the town must open bids in late September to meet SRF pooled-funding deadlines and asked that one council member attend the public bid opening; a pre-bid meeting was proposed for Sept. 11 and ads will run in late August and early September.
Eric Smith of HWC Engineering introduced the evening’s agenda and turned the water update over to Dustin Whalen, the project manager. Whalen said the town needs to "close on the project with SRF at their November during their November closing period" and that, working backward, the team is targeting a public bid opening at the end of September.
Whalen asked that "a member of the council be there at the bid opening in the last 5 minutes, 10 minutes max" so contractors can deliver bids in hand. He proposed a pre-bid meeting for Sept. 11 at 10:00 a.m. at the senior center and said advertising will be handled by the consultants with an initial ad around Aug. 28 and a follow-up ad around Sept. 8. Whalen said Baker Tilly and SRF are party to the pooled funding process, and that the consultants will present bids and a recommended action at the town’s October meeting.
