Commissioners approve $25,000 updated Wayne County housing study to be paid by local partners

Wayne Tomorrow! Housing Task Force Chairman Justin Taylor told the commissioners that the 2022 county housing study "was a great step to lay out the plan for future housing in Wayne County" but that, because it "was done during the COVID-19 Pandemic, there is uncertainty about whether the information is still accurate." The board voted unanimously to enter into an agreement with Urban Partners to conduct an updated Wayne County Housing Study at a cost not to exceed $25,000. The update will be fully funded by the Wayne County Community Foundation along with contributions from the Wayne/Pike Realtors Association and the Wayne County Housing Authority, according to a presentation by Derek Williams of the Wayne County Community Foundation.
Commissioners said they viewed the update as a needed check on post-pandemic housing trends and development needs; the contract specifies a cost cap of $25,000 and funding sources were identified during the meeting.
