Parents, student leader raise dance-team funding and FCCLA participation during open forum

At the Canutillo ISD board meeting on Oct. 22, 2024, public commenters addressed extracurricular activities and student organizations. Sonia Fraire, who identified herself as a Flight Dance parent and a School Health Advisory Council member, said the dance team is not funded by the district and that there are roughly $1,000 in payments that need to be made; she said she had reached out to Trustee Rodriguez to ask whether the district could provide funding or assistance.
Valentina Carrillo, serving as an FCCLA Region 1 officer (vice-president), presented to the board on FCCLA’s role in helping students develop leadership skills. The board did not take action on the public comments during the meeting; trustees were reminded by legal counsel Mr. Steve Blanco that board members may not sign up for open forum and can only speak to items on the posted agenda.
