Canton ISD reports new high school site work, fencing projects and lighting issues

During the information portion of the meeting, Superintendent Dr. Brian Nichols reported district enrollment "as of January 10, 2025, was 2280" with campus counts CHS 633, CJH 550, CIH 533, and CES 564. He told trustees that civil work has begun on the land for the new high school, trees have been cleared on the site and along the creek, fiber lines were relocated, and the driveway off Highway 243 is now open; a utility permit with the City of Canton was expected to be approved the following week.
Nichols also described planned and ongoing facility work: wrought iron fencing will be installed around the CHS frontage and the CJH playground; the CIS playgrounds and CHS baseball and softball facilities will be enclosed with vinyl chain-link fencing; CES fencing will be replaced with vinyl chain-link. The baseball and softball fields are nearly complete but the district reported lighting issues with some lights not working, which staff said they will address prior to events.
