Burleson ISD approves school safety officer hires, authorizes armed status pending clearance

The board approved hiring school safety officers for the 2024-25 year and authorized those individuals to carry weapons on school property pursuant to board policy CKC/CKE, pending criminal history clearance and applicable law.
On Nov. 11, 2024, the Burleson ISD Board approved employment of specified School Safety Officers for the 2024-25 school year, subject to criminal history clearance and applicable board policy. The motion, made by Ms. Pat Worrell and seconded by Mr. Shawn Minor, also authorized those individuals to carry a weapon on school property pursuant to board policy CKC and/or CKE and applicable law.
Earlier in the meeting Mr. Steve Logan, the district's Chief Operating Officer, had reported there were two School Safety Officer candidates under consideration: one designated for the Academy at Nola Dunn and a part-time candidate to fill in as needed. Trustees voted unanimously to approve the hires.
