Roanoke County project updates: CTE site work, Hidden Valley and school renovations near completion

District staff reported near-completion of the CTE facility and multiple summer projects across middle and elementary schools, with punch-list items, landscaping, signage and limited final inspections remaining before students return next week.
The Roanoke County Public Schools board heard progress reports on major summer construction projects, including the new career and technical education (CTE) facility and renovations at Hidden Valley, Glenbrook and Glenbrae schools. Todd Cagle introduced project staff and said most elementary projects will be finished "with the exception of punch list items, before school, before school starts for students, next week."
A presenter described the CTE site work as substantially complete: perimeter fencing is installed with one gate pending, parking lots were receiving a top coat, and district staff are coordinating with VDOT on the new traffic signal. He said commissioning identified defects in two original boilers that were replaced and are now being re-commissioned. Board members noted the work looks "really nice," and presenters said classrooms, cosmetology equipment, casework, welding dust-collection systems and automotive lifts are in place or being finished.
At Hidden Valley Middle School staff reported completed LED ceiling and lighting upgrades; Glenbrook Middle’s Family & Consumer Sciences room was enlarged and fitted with four workstations; and Glenbrae Elementary’s staff restrooms and trim work finished after summer construction. William Byrd High School’s practice-field fencing posts were set and turf and irrigation work will continue into late August, weather permitting. The presenters said many of these projects will be ready for use by the start of school.
