The Canutillo ISD Board of Trustees voted Nov. 11, 2024, to amend the terms of Superintendent Pedro Galaviz’s employment contract following a closed-session evaluation.
The board convened in executive session at 10:13 AM under Texas Government Code sections 551.071, 551.072 and 551.074 to discuss the 2024–2025 evaluation of the superintendent. The posted evaluation topics listed Domains I–VIII (Leadership; Personnel Management; Administration & Fiscal/Facilities Management; Student Management; Professional Growth and Development; Schools/Community Relations; Board/Superintendent Relations; Supervisory Responsibilities) and the assessment tool used for the review.
After returning from closed session, Trustee Borrego moved "to amend the terms of the contract of employment of superintendent Pedro Galaviz on the terms discussed in closed session and direct legal counsel to prepare the amendment and present to the Board President and Superintendent for approval." Trustee Mendoza seconded. The motion was approved by all trustees present: Mrs. Barnes-Yes, Mrs. Borrego-Yes, Mrs. Mendoza-Yes, Mr. Rodriguez-Yes and Mrs. Zuniga-Yes. Trustee Simental was not present for the vote following a medical emergency earlier in the meeting.
The board directed legal counsel to draft the amendment and present it to the board president and the superintendent for execution. The minutes state the board came out of closed session at 11:45 AM and reconvened business at approximately 11:58 AM; the meeting adjourned at 12:00 PM.
