Employees committee revived; chair reads charter and sets priorities

The Binghamton City employees committee convened Thursday to restart the panel’s work and review its governing responsibilities.
The committee chair opened by reading the subsection of the committee charter that assigns it oversight of employee matters “including salaries, wages, and all other employee benefits in terms and conditions of employment,” and to report on the status of labor negotiations. The chair said the meeting’s immediate goal was to revive the committee and make progress on recruiting and retaining staff.
Members agreed on two initial priorities: standardizing the employee reporting (complaint) process and examining employee management practices, including evaluations and retention steps. The chair said the committee will treat this meeting as the first of several and use follow-ups to review documents and proposed forms.
The committee scheduled a follow-up meeting to review drafts and departmental materials and to continue work on the committee’s two priority areas.
