Chief Ben Boyd, CHISD Chief of Police, explained that CKE (LEGAL) requires the Board to determine armed security staffing on campuses and that armed officers must meet qualifications outlined in Education Code 37.081 and Government Code 614.12. The approved local revision authorizes the use of off-duty peace officers on a part-time or volunteer basis to support the district's safety program and explicitly references inclusion of the Guardian Plan.
Board members voted 5-0 to adopt the local policy revisions. Administration will proceed with implementation consistent with statutory qualifications and report on operational details as needed.
