Board approves a slate of new courses aimed at college and career readiness

The Chapel Hill ISD Board approved a multi-course curriculum update designed to expand college and career pathways across the district. Laura Helm, Director of the Academies, presented the proposal and said the recommendations were developed with campus teams and based on student interest, workforce trends, and instructional needs.
"The recommended courses included Spanish for Spanish Speakers; Personal Financial Literacy and Economics; Virtual Business; Global Business; Sports & Entertainment Marketing I and II; CTE Project-Based Capstone; Forensic Science; Physics for Engineering; Fundamentals of Computer Science; and Engineering Design Process," the presentation record states. Dr. Amy Hayes moved to approve the proposed new courses; David Acker seconded and the motion passed 5–0 with two trustees absent.
Board members described the additions as intended to align coursework with the District’s Academies model and to support college and career readiness. The approvals become part of the district curriculum and will be implemented per campus schedules and staffing availability.
