County staff to seek $50,000 Department of Agriculture grant for a countywide land-use plan

Hancock County planning staff told commissioners Feb. 19 they intend to apply for a $50,000 Department of Agriculture grant to fund a comprehensive countywide land-use plan. Matt Cordonier said the grant would support a consultant-led process because of his office's time constraints, noted Sandusky County's plan as a model, and requested a $50,000 waiver from the County Revolving Loan Fund to match the grant. "If approved, Matt would like to hire a consultant to help with the process, due to time constraints of Matt's office and the importance of the project," the minutes record.
A project sheet in the meeting materials described a $100,000 project budget: $50,000 from USDA, $50,000 from the county RLF and an estimated $25,000 in in-kind support from HRPC. The scope includes public meetings across townships and villages, technical analysis of infrastructure and environmental drainage, and a review/adoption process involving townships, villages and HRPC. Phil Johnson was tasked with preparing a resolution for the Feb. 24 meeting to advance the request.
