County awards $285,940 contract for Rawson sidewalk replacement with $202,000 in CDBG funds

Hancock County Commissioners voted Feb. 19 to award a contract to Smith Concrete, LLC for demolition and replacement of sidewalks in the Village of Rawson as part of the Village of Rawson Sidewalk Improvement program funded by the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) for program year 2024. The low bid was stated as $285,940.00; Phil Johnson presented the item and the board approved the award by motion of Bill Bateson, seconded by Tim Bechtol, with a recorded vote of 3-0.
Matt Cordonier noted the expected scope and local reception: "80% of the sidewalks will be replaced and the village is very excited for the update," he said, adding that local officials had expressed strong support. The transcript shows $202,000 of the contract price will be covered by grant funds with the remainder paid from the county's revolving loan fund. Commissioners approved the resolution to proceed and did not record additional conditions during the meeting.
