Fabens ISD preliminarily projects overall accountability score of 78; high school estimated at 81

Fabens ISD staff presented preliminary state accountability projections for 2026 during the July 15 board meeting, saying the district is projected to post an overall composite score of 78, which places it in the C range. Galavis walked trustees through the accountability domains — student achievement, school progress, and closing the gaps — and explained how the district picks the higher of the two domains that produce the final score. He said districts earn 70% of the composite from the higher of two domains and 30% from closing the gaps; district leaders emphasized growth at some campuses while identifying English reading and writing (English I/II) as areas needing further work. Galavis flagged campus‑level differences: the high school is projected to reach an 81 (B) and some elementary and middle campuses showed declines that will require targeted interventions.

Campus leaders followed with school‑level TELPAS and grade‑band analyses. Presenters highlighted gains (for example, 5th grade growth at one campus and Fabens Middle School meeting the middle‑school TELPAS target) and explained planned steps — adopting vertically aligned instructional materials, strengthening Tier 2/Tier 3 interventions, and scheduled progress monitoring — to move students from “approaches” to “meets” and “masters.” The district reminded trustees that final, official accountability results will be released by the state in mid‑August and that these figures are provisional projections.
