Public commenter alleges missed teacher incentive payments, benefits deductions at Fabens ISD

At the July 6 special meeting a public commenter presented information from Cadence ISD employees saying two Fabens teachers lost eligibility for state teacher-incentive payments because of evaluation scoring and administrative errors and that benefit deductions were not forwarded to a vendor; the commenter urged the board to investigate.
A community member speaking during the public-comment period told the Fabens ISD board that state teacher-incentive funds intended for local teachers were not distributed because the teachers received a 0 in an evaluation domain and administrative errors prevented the teachers from qualifying. The commenter said two teachers who live in Fabens were affected and described the base incentive tier as about $8,000 per year, noting that, “The teacher would have received $40,000 in total,” if paid over five years.
The speaker also raised a separate payroll/benefits concern, saying deductions had been taken from employees but not remitted to the vendor and that the district changed vendors after the problem was discovered. The commenter said the period to resubmit documentation had passed and therefore no retroactive action could be taken immediately, and urged trustees to obtain the facts and remedy any mistakes. The board did not take immediate action on the comment but the remark was recorded for follow-up by administration.
