The revisions specify course categories (Advanced, Honors, Regular), assign weight adjustments (for example, Advanced courses receive added weight), and describe how transferred grades are handled for ranking purposes.
The policy text presented in the packet states: "The District shall assign weights to semester grades earned in eligible courses and calculate a weighted numerical grade average," and provides detailed weight and weighted GPA conversion tables. The revisions also set local eligibility rules for valedictorian and salutatorian recognition (e.g., eight semesters of enrollment and completion of the foundation program with distinguished level of achievement) and provide a tie-breaking method based on the number of Advanced courses taken; if the tie persists, all students involved share the honor.
Board discussion had previously led to tabling consideration of certain valedictorian/salutatorian qualification details during the July 30 meeting; the Aug. 8 special meeting approved the proposed revisions as presented. The district will publish the revised policy language and administrative regulations for implementation in the 2024–25 school year.
