Commissioners prioritize capital projects, request cost estimate for county fiber route

During a mid-morning session commissioners and staff reviewed a prioritized list of potential capital projects and associated estimated costs. Auditor Charity Rauschenberg and county staff joined the discussion; commissioners agreed to have Commissioner Bechtol contact Sigma to request a formal cost estimate for the county fiber route originally scoped.
Commissioners noted the Sheriff has received new radio equipment and that areas of existing fiber could allow the Sheriff to begin work where connectivity exists. Staff also gave updates on the Olive Street building remodel (including a new wall under construction), proposed uses for the Litter Landing building, and sequencing of the Treasurer's office remodel before a first-floor courthouse renovation. Charity Rauschenberg said the county courthouse fund has a balance of about $48,000 for capital projects.
The board discussed other capital items, including Metrich-funded renovations to cottages, a multi-year plan to replace county home windows, and the need for a structural engineer assessment for the jail recreation roof cover. Commissioners also considered building a new maintenance facility on County Road 140 to replace dilapidated structures and discussed funding approaches for the project portfolio.
