Edgewood ISD sets targets to raise TSI, AP and dual-credit outcomes by 2027

Deputy Superintendent Phillip Chavez presented the Lone Star Governance monthly monitoring report and recommended approval of the 2024–25 monthly monitoring calendar. The report framed governance work around five pillars (vision and goals; systems and processes; progress and accountability; advocacy and engagement; synergy and teamwork) and included slides with students and families highlighted.
The presentation listed four explicit Goal Progress Measures (GPMs) through June 2027: raise TSI-criteria attainment (ELA/Math) from 15% to 25%; increase AP/IB criterion scores from 8% to 15%; boost dual-credit completion from 30% to 36%; and grow industry-based certification rates under 19 TAC 74.1003 from 6% to 25%. Trustee Michael Valdez asked whether Memorial High provides workshops before testing; Chavez said, "yes, Memorial high school, they have sessions in ELAR and Math and even the day before the tests. We have seen our scores increasing at the college level from years previous." Trustees asked for disaggregated student-population and CTE grade-level breakdowns; Chavez agreed to provide those with superintendent approval.
The board approved the consent item to accept the monitoring report as part of the consent agenda. The report's targets set the district's measurable objectives for college, career and military readiness and will require data monitoring and follow-up reports to show progress toward the June 2027 benchmarks.
