The Board considered and approved the 2026-27 Student Code of Conduct. During consideration Trustee Afshi Charania moved an amendment to page 62 (Coursework Notice) that would require written notice to the parent or guardian of a student placed in the Disciplinary Alternative Education Program (DAEP) about the student's opportunity to complete, before the beginning of the next school year and at no cost, any foundation curriculum course required for graduation. Trustee Addie Heyliger seconded the amendment; the motion to amend carried 7-0 and the original motion as amended carried 7-0.
The amendment language, as approved by the Board, states in part that 'the parent or guardian of a student placed in DAEP shall be given written notice of the student's opportunity to complete before the beginning of the next school year, at no cost to the student, a foundation curriculum course in which the student was enrolled at the time of removal and which is required for graduation.' The notice may include information about correspondence courses, other distance-learning options, or summer school and must inform parents of all methods available for completing the coursework. The motion and vote were recorded in the minutes; the meeting record does not include further debate or campus-level implementation details.
