The commissioners voted unanimously to apply to the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development's Greenways, Trails and Recreation Program (GTRP) to fund design work for a Sheepskin Trail segment connecting South Union Township to Fairchance Borough. The total estimated design cost is $216,490.00, with a 15% local match of $32,473.50; the county's request is $184,016.50.
Commissioner Vince Vicites said the grant supports continued trail development and could enable future extensions north toward the Yough River Trail and roughly 2.3 miles south to accommodate increased ridership. The board provided unanimous approval for the grant application as presented.
