Gatesville ISD honors UIL soloist and Hornet baseball season

Superintendent Barrett Pollard recognized GHS Choir student Nevin Benning as an Outstanding Performer at the 2024 UIL State Solo and Ensemble and honored the Hornet baseball team and coach Chase Smith for a 23–14–1 season and deep playoff run.
Superintendent Barrett Pollard opened the meeting’s spotlight portion by recognizing Gatesville High School choir student Nevin Benning for being selected as an Outstanding Performer at the 2024 UIL Texas State Solo and Ensemble Competition. ‘‘Nevin Benning’’ was singled out for the honor during the board’s regular meeting on Aug. 19.
Dr. Pollard also recognized the 2024 Hornet Baseball Team and head coach Chase Smith for a successful season. ‘‘GHS finished with an overall record of 23 wins, 14 losses and 1 tie despite playing a very demanding schedule,’’ Pollard said, noting the team tied for second in district play and advanced three rounds into the postseason before losing to Salado in a best-of-three series. The board’s recognition highlighted student achievement and coach leadership ahead of the new school year.
