LaCreasha Stille, Assistant Superintendent of HR, briefed trustees on the Grow Your Own (GYO) program, a district initiative to recruit, develop and retain teachers by supporting paraprofessionals, aides and substitutes in their transition to classroom teacher roles. GISD is operating GYO under its District of Innovation status, and the program includes monthly cohort meetings and professional development.
Stille reported two active cohorts: Cohort 1 includes five participants who have received positions in the district and a sixth serving as a long-term substitute; Cohort 2 has three participants. The board received the informational presentation; no board action was required beyond acknowledgement of the program.
