Gainesville ISD trustees on Sept. 16 approved a memorandum of understanding with CASA of North Texas to continue the Community Outreach & Prevention Education (COPE) program. The partnership, in place for the past two years, provides enrichment activities and advocacy services to support students who have experienced abuse or neglect.
Trustee Laura Otts moved and Trustee Marvin Royal seconded approval of the COPE MOU; the motion passed unanimously, 7-0. The minutes note CASA's role in training and supporting volunteer advocates who gather information and represent the child's best interests in cases involving foster care or other critical needs.
