Brock student programs highlight strong year: theater, choir, UIL, FFA and athletics

Multiple Brock ISD programs presented highlights to the Board on May 11, reporting strong participation, competitive success and new program development. Theater teacher Fleeta Burns told trustees the BJHS theater program "currently serves 160 students across seven classes" and showcased student work using recycled materials; a student modeled a Broadway-themed costume and described her inspiration.
Choir teacher Haley Grimm and two choir students described personal growth from concert and musical participation, including integrating sign language and competing in UIL events. High School Principal Eric Sams and UIL Director Teresa Wilcox announced Brock High School won the District UIL Championship for a second straight year and that "13 students qualified for the upcoming State UIL competition." FFA teacher Mark Sullivan reported four FFA teams qualified for State in their inaugural year, and coaches across track, golf and tennis described broken school records, regional and state qualifiers, and scholarship and collegiate commitments for student-athletes.
Coaches and teachers emphasized student dedication and volunteer support; volunteers such as Jay Rees were publicly thanked by coaches for contributing expertise to season development. Board members received the updates during the Brock Spotlight portion of the meeting, with no formal action required.
