Hancock County JFS reports 106 children in custody; foster-care projections top $4.8 million

Randall L. Galbraith, Esq., director of Hancock County Job & Family Services, gave the board an update at the commissioners' Feb. 17 meeting and provided a packet of placement and projection data.
Galbraith told the board that January reporting was not finalized because of a two-month reporting lag and end-of-year close; he said he expects levy figures next month that will be included in future reports. The packet lists 106 children in Hancock County custody as of Jan. 31, 2026, and 90 children in foster-care placements. The report's heading lists “Total Foster Care and Kinnect to Family Expense Projections” as 4,890,389.25 (figures presented in the packet). The packet also itemizes placement types, per-diem rates, and a state kinship payment rate of $12.73 per day for the first six months for kinship providers who are not certified foster parents.
Galbraith also described a new statewide committee and a bill requiring the Ohio Department of Job & Family Services to compute county-level SNAP error rates; he outlined how Hancock County plans to handle the new error-rate reporting requirement. He told the commissioners he should receive the levy amount next month and be able to include those figures in the next meeting's report.
