Gatesville ISD adds police vehicles; welding-shop fire quickly contained

Superintendent Barrett Pollard told the Gatesville ISD Safety & Security Committee on Aug. 21 that the district acquired two used vehicles through a deal with the Coryell County Sheriff’s Office and had GISD police decals applied, bringing the total number of district police vehicles to five. Chief Gary Stiles and an officer now have official GISD vehicles, Pollard said.
Pollard also showed security-camera footage of a small, accidental fire in the Gatesville High School welding shop. Friend on Duty Adam Fitzer and Assistant Principal Brian Bays extinguished the blaze after students and staff evacuated. Pollard said the incident was accidental and "not horesplay or anything malicious," and that "not enough damage occurred to meet the insurance deductible." The committee received the update; no further action was required.
