Dr. Barrett Pollard told trustees that Gatesville ISD will pursue a staff development minutes waiver for 2026—7 so designated professional development days may count toward instructional minutes under state guidance. Pollard said the district must document the types of professional development offered on those calendar days to meet state requirements.
Trustees approved management pursuing the waiver on a motion by Loyd Hopson, seconded by Charles Alderson; the vote was 5—6 with two absent. Pollard framed the waiver as a way to preserve instructional minute requirements while supporting teacher professional learning.
District staff will compile documentation of PD content and categories to comply with state reporting requirements if the waiver is granted.
