Gatesville ISD to join TASB Energy cooperative for Sept–Dec 2026 to cap fuel costs

Assistant Superintendent LeighAnn Goodwin recommended that Gatesville ISD join the TASB Energy Cooperative for the fall semester (September–December 2026) to cap fuel prices after staff explained volatility in global markets. Goodwin said the proposed caps are $3.85 per gallon for diesel and $3.15 per gallon for unleaded fuel; current 2025–26 capped prices were $2.79 (diesel) and $2.59 (unleaded).
Goodwin told trustees the cooperative delayed establishing its pool until late spring because of market volatility — "This is why the cooperative waited so late in the spring to establish the pool and its cap prices." She noted the district has spent $107,237 on fuel so far in the 2025–26 school year and recommended signing the letter of commitment for the fall semester only, with an expectation that spring 2027 rates may be more favorable. The board approved authorizing district enrollment in the cooperative by a 7-0 vote.
