Gatesville police report smooth events, town-square demolition and raise kratom concerns

In the same update, Clark and Mueller raised concerns about kratom sold in local vape shops. The minutes quote committee discussion that "Kratom is sold as an energy booster, mood lifter, and pain reliever. However, it can cause high blood pressure, confusion, seizures, liver damage, hallucinations, depression and even death." The officials pointed out that the FDA calls kratom a "drug of concern" but that it is not regulated at the federal level in the same way as controlled substances. No enforcement action or ordinance change was recorded in the minutes; the item was a public-health and community-safety briefing.
