Residents urge RSU 40 board for concrete enrollment and cost data before discussing school closures

He asked for operating costs for individual schools — for example, Friendship Village School — so the public can see the tradeoffs discussed in meetings.
Catherine Nicole said the board must state the committee’s goal and the criteria it will use: "Closing schools is a short term attempt to solve a long term budget problem," she said, and asked whether the committee would be charged to preserve student success while solving district costs. She urged the board to bring the numbers to public meetings and to avoid cycles of discussion without specific data.
Board members said those requests would be part of the committee's work and that the committee’s charge requires analysis, community input and a written deliverable to inform future budget discussions.
